This year has been a year defined by rapid AI adoption, and many leaders are now asking themselves what comes next. While automation and intelligence tools will continue to advance, the coming year offers an opportunity to recalibrate priorities and strengthen the more “human” elements of leadership.
Whether it’s the rise of authenticity, a renewed focus on culture or a push toward more thoughtful and responsible tech usage, the conversation is shifting from what AI can do to what leaders must do to achieve sustainable success next year. To that end, the members of Rolling Stone Culture Council share what they believe 2026 should be about and how they’re preparing their companies, teams and mindsets for the next chapter.
Connection
Next year should be the year of authentic connection. We’ve all seen how fast technology can move, but people still crave what’s real. Next year should be about using these powerful tools to bring more humanity back into business, storytelling and brand relationships. For me, that means finding ways to use innovation to connect, not just to automate. – Jeff Hopmayer, Brindiamo Group LLC
Humanity
I believe 2026 will be the year of humanity. There is no substitution for the importance of human connection, empathy and heart. This year tested us in so many ways; it’s time for a year of support, togetherness and an overall awareness of humanity. – Marissa Andrada, Marissa Andrada
Adaptation
If 2025 was the year of AI, 2026 will be the year of adaptation — adapting to new ways of being, adapting to a future where many of the jobs we currently see are no longer available and adapting to an era of self-creation. People who can create will be the people with job security. – Jennifer R. Farmer, Spotlight PR LLC
The Power of Culture and Creativity
If 2025 belonged to AI, then 2026 must belong to the “Human Renaissance” — a return to the power of culture, creativity and conscious leadership. We have advanced the machine. Now we must elevate the mind, the heart and the human spirit that guides it. For all its brilliance, AI cannot dream. Innovation without humanity isn’t evolution — it’s collapse dressed as progress. – Kimberly S. Reed, Reed Development Group
More Balanced Business Automation
As many business systems become increasingly seamless, 2026 should be “The Year of Balance,” where AI becomes a force multiplier, not a burden requiring constant oversight. Platforms with innovative automation can streamline compliance and operations. I’m preparing by establishing and maintaining internal auditing programs and protocols to ensure business automation truly adds value. – Thomas Andersen, BTA Cannabis CPA Tax
Authenticity
Next year should be the year of authenticity — a return to human truth after the algorithmic flood. AI gave us speed and simulation, but now the world craves sincerity and emotional depth. The future belongs to those who use technology with restraint, amplifying meaning rather than replacing it and protecting what machines can’t: empathy, beauty and soul. – Sudhir Gupta, The Facticerie
Intelligent Application of AI
Next year should be the year of actually putting AI to work in ways that matter. Not more hype, not more demos — just real, meaningful adoption that changes how teams operate and how customers experience products. The companies that win in 2026 won’t be the ones with the flashiest AI; they’ll be the ones that quietly made it part of their foundation and educated themselves on how to intelligently apply it. – Ben Kruger, Event Tickets Center
Leaning Into AI While Recognizing Its Limitations
If 2025 was the year of AI, 2026 should be a continuum of that. AI is still so early, and end users are realizing that much of AI is more “A” than “I.” How we leverage this tool to bring value to our clients, customers and teams will be where those who lean into AI will win. – Chris Eggers, CC Security Solutions
Embracing Other Disruptive Technologies
In 2026, we will see the acceleration of other exponential and disruptive technologies, such as AR, 3D Printing, IIoT, bio and nanotech. Many power plants will be built to power AI, EVs, robots and crypto. I anticipate that bitcoin will experience a resurgence in 2026. We have gathered foresight on tech and trends and decided which ones to coin and which ones we will “swipe left” on. – Igor Beuker, Igor Beuker
Helping One Another
I believe 2026 is going to be the year of help. It’s a tough world out there, and it’s likely to keep on being so. People need help and want comfort. Businesses, nonprofits and governments (at all levels) are meant to make people’s lives better. In 2026, customers and constituents will be asking, “Are you actually helping me?” Your value proposition should provide a clear “yes.” – Jed Brewer, Good Loud Media
Intention
Next year should be the year of intention. We’ve automated everything from content to connection, but now leaders need to restore discernment, creativity and context. We’re preparing by integrating AI as an assistant, not a driver, and using it to enhance strategic thinking, not replace it. The next era belongs to those who stay human. – Kristin Marquet, Marquet Media, LLC
Thinking of AI as a Tool, Not a Replacement
AI is playing a pivotal role in society, with all the new experts, corporate regulatory concerns, predictions and technological advancements. Remember, AI is only as good as the electrical feed you are using. AI can disappear in an instant. In the year 2026, realize that AI is not your replacement, but your personal asset. Use AI like a rented mule; it’s the bitcoin of the mind. – Wayne Bell, Really Big Coloring Books® Inc | ColoringBook.com
